My Bitchin' Steampunk Dress (Part 2- My Favorite Detail)

Here is a close-up of the starry underskirt. I've hand-embroidered the constellations, added two kinds of sequin stars, and of course, the battery-powered floral lights.

I probably shouldn't have attached the battery pack to the skirt in a way that I can't remove the batteries. Something about that doesn't seem smart for long-term storage...

My Bitchin' Steampunk Dress! (part 1)

It's been a long road to get here (see the Bitchin' Steampunk Dress tag for the whole story) but here it is.
Dress, Side

The whole outfit took about a year to complete, though it wasn't my only sewing project over that time. I'm pleased with how it turned out. Please notice that some of the stars on the skirt light up!

Swap Piece in Progress

Here's the beginning of my Phat Quarter swap piece. The theme is "Somebody Told Me..."I had trouble drawing a banana, so I just traced it.

Fiery Heart Quilt

15.5" x 16", machine embroidery.
Fiery Heart I

There's a lot I really like about this piece. It's too busy, though. My next one (in progress) has a similar layout but is a little simpler.

Fiery Heart I (detail)

Here's a detail. I'm getting frustrated with The Tank's lack of free-motion ability.

Awkward Purse

I finished my Berry Stitch Purse (Ravelry link) and did some nifty crochet to keep the handles on and even lined it but something's... just not right. The handles are summery and the knitting is wintery, perhaps. I'm taking off the handles and trying again.

It's Awkward...

Finished Socks

So these are the Gryffindor Socks I've been working on forever. They're done and their model is home, too.

A Bounty of Fabric...

...but how can I use it?

This weekend, I went home to see my family for the holiday and my mom's BFF gave me some fabric samples that she no longer shows to clients. It's prints! Prints!!! but it's all 100% polyester, most of it recycled. I don't know how The Tank is going to handle it or how hand embroidery will look, but I'm going to find out!

But look at those prints!

More Crochet

Crochet Day Two

A simple granny square and an unremarkable flower. I'm picking up the techniques, though, and that's what's important.

Granny Square

I'm a little bored with what I've done so far but very excited about all the possibilities of crochet. I'm looking forward to improvising-- something that's never gone well with knitting!
