1947 Blouse

Shirt from vintage pattern

I found this pattern at a flea market earlier this month. It's a blouse from 1947.

I adjusted the darts a little on the mock-up and probably should have made it a little longer. Next time I'll try making it without interfacing in the front--it spoils the feel of the very light cotton I used.

I've already worn the shirt out to dinner and I'm happy with it.

Can't Win 'Em All

Well. Uh.  I used this tutorial and while the instructions were pretty clear, this style is just not for me. And the stripes should go vertically.

Paper Bag Waist Skirt

It looks okay in the photo, but what you can't see is just how narrow the bottom of the skirt really is. Stairs are kinda hard. I think of Thomas Edison, who said (according to the internet) "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work."

New Sewing Table

I found it at a yard sale last weekend. Brought it home, cleaned it up, took off the front panel so my knees would fit underneath, and so far so good.

New Sewing Table

They wouldn't sell it without the machine (the little lemon drop in the lower left of the picture) which is a little newer than The Tank and has several kinds of zigzag stitches. Oooh, fancy. I might paint the table white or some other bright color, but I'm waiting to get some drawers for the craft area, too. Don't want too get ahead of myself.

Like I ever do that.

Rolling Rubber Stamps

Roller Stamps
Kaytie and I used  this tutorial to make our own rolling rubber stamps. I've used mine (the messier two rollers on the left) for cards and stationery. I'm new to the stamping world and a little overwhelmed by the possibilities... and the amount of stuff that's involved.

Choices, Choices

Art quilt #3 is almost finished! I've tried something different with the border, but the color isn't right. I've got three options:

The Original

Here's the quilt as is. I'd finish it with a very thin bias tape of orange, but that looks too bland to me.

Option 1

The blue and orange together adds some depth, but is the blue still wrong?

Option #2

But with just the orange, it feels so crowded and almost dark.

I'm leaving it up on the wall for a few days and seeing how I feel, but I need another pair of eyes on it. Any ideas?

It's Still Storming!

This is from a Lassie coloring book I found a couple years ago.

"It's Still Storming!"

It has such a powerful feel (even though I think the park ranger's supposed to be yawning) that I'm going to use the outline for something really epic someday. A quilt, probably. Of a wizard waking up proud of his storm? Lear getting ready for a No Good Very Bad Day? (That's how I think of a lot of Shakespeare's tragedies-- "Macbeth and the No Good Very Bad Day" "Hamlet and the..." you get the idea.)

Candy Sushi (and Sashimi)

Candy Sushi 1

Last week, I made candy sushi with Kaytie. We used the first tutorial that showed up on Google and it worked well. Instead of cutting up fruit roll ups, we wrapped them in fruit by the foot.

They were a big hit! And sticky!

Heart Quilt 2

Missing You

I'm grooving art quilts right now.

Missing You (detail)

A close-up of the fabric detail:

Maps, boys and girls... what else would I choose for a heart when I'm missing my husband. Fix came home last night, though, so I'm happy to see him again.

Envelope security liner

I found this pattern on a "security" envelope. I like it a lot.

Patchwork Checkbook Cover

Patchwork Checkbook Cover

If I'm going to do crazy awesome art quilts (that's two links right there), I might as well learn the precise, left-brained side of quilting as well. This was an easy first project. Crazymomquilts's tutorial  was great.

Reds and Patterns

Hopefully, it's something Fix won't be embarrassed to carry as well if he needs to. Maybe?
