Summer Knitting

Gyffindor Complex Socks

The Gryffindor Complex Socks are coming along well. I feel like they're growing through the foot, but also wouldn't be surprised if that's a result of the diagonal shaping. I figure it'll sort itself out when I get to the toe. More pictures on Ravelry.

Future Tank Top

This luscious cotton is for the "Make Up Your Mind" tank top. Here it is on Ravelry. I'm looking forward to my first summer knit! I even made a swatch and blocked it like a grown-up! I just love this color.

Remodeled Tank Top

I found a really neat piece of lace at the mall, but I wasn't as enamored of the shirt it was attached to. I stitched it to a tank top I already had that needed a little love, and here's the final result.

I love the patterns!

Letter Needle Book

Special delivery!

Little Letter Needle Book 1

A love note?

Little Letter Needle Book 3

Nope! Needles!!!

Little Letter Needle Book 2

I love this Little Letter Needle Book. It is a million times better than the "unreliable tiny plastic bag" method I was using earlier to store my sewing needles. My favorite part is how the blue and white pattern reminds me of a security lining. Also note how the felt pieces unfold as if they were a sheet of paper in the envelope. It's all in the details...and not losing needles in the carpet any more.

Good Luck at Goodwill

I was looking for sweet belts to add to my collection of Steampunky hardware, but instead I found piles and piles of embroidery supplies for crazy low prices! Hooray! Here's what I brought home:

Good Luck at Goodwill

Two packages of counted cross stitch fabric
Silver thread of various gagues for the constellations on my Starry Skirt
Ten skiens (is it a skien?) of linen embroidery floss which came with
Ten wildflower patterns
Four skiens of floss for my "Do Thine Own Thing" project

Linen! What am I going to do with linen! Besides embroider wildflowers...

Sewing Up A Storm

It's still in the air whether I'm going to the costume contest or not, but either way, My Bitchin' Steampunk Dress is nearing wearability, if not completion. It's not in a photogenic state right now, but just you wait.

Pleats in Black Skirt

The Tank has been remarkably good with the thick pleats, finicky taffeta, and everything else I've thrown its way. I owe The Tank a tune-up after this project, I think.

Hardware Roundup

I've been touring the local thrift stores for interesting hardware that I can use on my Bitchin' Steampunk Dress, and here's the result:

Hardware Roundup

I'm still not sure what to do with the keys (but suspect it will involve chain of some sort) and the buckles will be fastening the jacket. If anyone has an idea how I can get those rectangular studs out of the belt, I would love to hear it, because they're stuck in there pretty well.

My New Wardrobe

"Make my own clothes" has been on my life's to-do list for a while now, and the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step/ there's no time like the present. I took a stained shirt that fit well and used it as a pattern for a new shirt.

The Old Shirt

It fits well and only took an afternoon to make, but I suspect that t-shirts may be some things that it's still better to buy and I should put my DIY wardrobe energy into skirts and blouses and cardigans. On the other hand, I am right now wearing something I made myself and it's something I'd be cool with wearing out of the house. That feels pretty good.

New Shirt

I would do the sleeves a little differently, and find a material that would curl up on its own and not need to be hemmed. JoAnn's selection is limited. Does anyone have an online fabric store that they would recommend?

New Bike

Rode my bike to the fabric store yesterday. What a satisfying (and sweaty) errand.

Sock Cat

Sock Cat
This is what happens when I'm given the materials and instructions to make a sock monkey: I had a great time at a sock-monkey-making party this weekend despite failing to make a sock monkey! I've never met instructions for an art project that I've cared to follow, and these (though clear and thoughtfully printed out for my convenience) were no exception.

The cat has essentially the same design as the monkey except for the front legs, muzzle, and ears.

Sock Cat

He up sits nicely and has a curious personality. We both enjoy the summer sunshine.
